Ajimu Course - Frescos and Jigokugokuraku

Frescos/Jigokugokuraku

We recommend the this course, which takes you on a 500-meter walk along Honmachi Street in Ajimu's Shimoichi and Orishikida areas, where you can see 100 year old frescos across 8 locations (23 if you include the new frescos), a total of 30 minutes. Afterwards, experience the afterlife at Hell Paradise, which was built in the late Edo period.

1. Ajimu Winery (tour time required: approximately 20 minutes)

Ajimu Winery is dotted with a winery, cellar, tasting shop, and vineyard, and you can tour the factory and sample the wine. Inside the premises, you can enjoy the seasonal scenery created by nature.

2. Stroll along Honmachi Kazue Street (tour time required: approximately 30 minutes)

About 5 minutes by car from Ajimu Winery, go to Kazue Street. There is a trowel-e of trowel-e No. 25 ``Wami Usagi''. There is a parking lot, so park your car and walk. Please enjoy the 500 meter walk along Honmachi Kazue Street while looking at the information board.

3. Sen no Iwa (visiting about 5 minutes)

It is 5 minutes by car from Ozue Street. Sightseeing spots include Mt. Kengatake, Byobu-iwa, and Hirai-iwa, which are made of agglomerated rocks.

4. Hell Paradise (tour time required: approximately 20 minutes)

Once you've finished touring the trowel paintings, please head to "Hell and Paradise." 500 minutes by car on National Route 10 toward Beppu. Inside a 40-meter-long cave dug in the late Edo period, there is a mysterious tourist spot that is rare even in Japan. When he is tried by King Enma at the entrance, he encounters a creepy undressed woman, a red demon, and a blue demon. The story goes that if you pass through this path to hell, you will be rescued by the 13 Buddhas and welcomed into the Pure Land of Paradise.

5. Higashi Shiiya Falls (tour time required: approximately 20 minutes)

If you have time, take a 15 minute drive from Jigoku Gokuraku towards Beppu.Higashi Shiiya Falls is also known as Kyushu Kegon Falls, which is listed as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. The height of the direct type is 85 meters. Enjoy the waterfall full of negative ions. Parking fee for regular cars is 200 yen. Once the tour is over, it's a short walk to African Safari, Beppu, and Yufuin.
